There are fourteen Maya artisans who work together and whose mission is: “to be a women’s cooperative that embroiders new designs on a pedal machine and sells at a fair price.”
The cooperative is constituted by: Felipa Poot, Lilia Tamay, Juana Chan, Leidi Pech, Josefina Poot, Brígida Pech, Brígida Poot, Felipa Poot, Lidia Tamay, Luisa Poot, Julia Pat, Nita Cocom, Josefina Poot, María Chan y Flora Tamay.
Dzitnup is a community in eastern Yucatec belonging to the municipality of Valladolid.
The cooperative was formed in 2006, but they have been working together since 2003. They embroider their garments in a pedal machine, dominating the movement of the hoop and the drawing of the traditional iconography constituted by flowers, birds and vegetation of the region.
